Saturday, the 25th September 2021 it is time again – the alpine cows return from the numerous alpine pastures around Gerlos “back to the barn. ”

The healthy return of the cows is celebrated with a big feast. Between 9 a. m. and 2 p. m. , the farmers drive their decorated alpine cattle back to their home farms. The “Huamfohra” are welcomed and celebrated in Gerlos along the main street, with the spectators already a few days before being offered an extensive supporting program such as Melkerball with live music and alpine hikes.

The big festival around the Almabtrieb is celebrated extensively in Gerlos. Atmosphere & entertainment with various Zillertal music groups, the whip-crackers, the "Fachtl-Trogern" and much more. At the large farmers' market you can experience old Zillertal handicrafts and of course the physical well-being is also well catered for. In addition to traditional Zillertal and Tyrolean specialities such as Zillertaler Krapfen and Melkermuas, you can buy schnapps, honey and cheese directly from the farmers to take home with you an additional souvenir of the traditional rural festival in the Hochtal Gerlos.
